Tailing Times Series
Since my home is near towns that began as mining camps during the Pike’s Peak (Colorado) Gold Rush, this seemed like a great historical setting to join my reading and writing passions into a historical western fiction series. While presenting fictional characters and plot events, I try to maintain accuracy for the setting and regional events.
The Tailing Times novel series follows the investigations of amateur sleuth William Chesterton, IV, “Chester,” who starts a newspaper, the Tailing Times, in the mining camps west of Denver during the Gold Rush. The gold rush began in 1858 and by 1865, when Chester arrives, the only thing truly settled about the mining camps is the power hierarchy. Chester’s uncle, Alexander, sits near the top of that hierarchy when Chester moves to the mining camps to enter Uncle Alexander’s employ.
Other stories in the series explore frontier and gold rush adventures. Some introduce Chester’s family and the main characters in the novel series before they met in the mining camps. Guillaume Pelletier, Catherine (Goldie) Kelley, and others.
Although some real historical places, events, and people are mentioned in the series, the specific characters and details featured are fictional. The best I can describe the stories is classic: classic western, adventure, and mystery.
